2011 State of the Club Address

What can I say, 2010 flashed by and before we knew it, 2011 was here and the con was done and over with for the year. While we are looking at a lengthy wait for 2012, let me be the first to say to the club, on behalf of the CFB, the convention seemed to be a great success. Even though attendance did not look up, registration was MUCH smoother than 2004 and ALL of the exclusives sold out – truly a grand feat for sure. This year’s meeting was a pleasant surprise. Attendance was up for us and I appreciate those who continue to show up every year to take part of the madness. I personally sit there and do nothing. All the credit goes to Don and our new Ambassador, Rashawn for bringing the masses to the meeting. Once again, your work cannot be measured. So now the journey begins where we must pace ourselves for the next convention. We encourage the club to make a speedy announcement so once again we can begin to make plans. Thank you all for your continued support and we hope to see you all (and more) at the 7th Annual Meeting of the CFB in 2012!

New Officer Added to CFB

Please welcome Rashawn Seams as the OFFICIAL Ambassador of the CFB. Known as Kingofpain26 throughout the community, Rashawn is a mainstay on most community forums making him ideal to be our Ambassador. Rashawn was voted in by unanimous consent during the April 2nd meeting. We will add Rashawn to our officer page. Please welcome “Ray Shawn” as CFB Ambassador!

Hi all, Gary here!

Well members, we made it. We made it to 5 years old. We’ve come a long way from a suggestion seeded by Brian Savage to the 3.75″ collectors at the 2004 Convention. Sure, the name of the organization has angered some, and embarrassed others, but only those who actually attend a meeting can only understand our mission.

The last year has been a challenging one. From personal loss to career changes, this year has not been as festive as previous years. Sadly, there were no t-shirts, hats or other CFB paraphernalia at the con this year. We were lucky just to have the Bulletman art ready to go. I feel in some aspects, all of us were lucky to just be there. I think that sums up our year. We made it to the convention and the goal this year was to just relax. No contest, no challenges, no customs, no dios, no major projects – JUST relax and enjoy.

Not all CFB member stayed put for the year. Congratulations should be extended to our Vice President Don for yet another 2nd place finish in the JoeCon Custom Contest! Please join me is sending our sincerest praise to Don for representing the CFB once again in an award winning effort!!

I mean, why did we need to work hard this year? Who did we need to impress? All of the hard work we did last year by creating a logo, creating a crest, pressing out cardart, t-shirts and hats. We’ll return to doing some of these I am sure, but for this year the journey to Kansas City was the battle – a battle most of us won.

The membership is healthy. Thanks to the efforts of Don and Anthony, we had another great showing of attendees to the annual meeting. We are still a visible and relivant entity. I see us mentioned on forums from around the online community. While not always held in a positive light as we would like, any PR is good PR.

The hobby is in a state we have not seen in more than 20 years. The pegs and aisles are full. The movie was ranked #1 (albeit for a week, but still it was #1). Our hobby has received an injection of new fans. This hopefully will mean new members to the club which will equate to new members to the CFB. Let us be respectful to these new members and value their opinion. We open our arms to new ideas and thoughts and we hope to see you at one of our meetings soon.

The CFB would also like to encourage the GIJCC to continue to think outside of the box. Please do not repeat the mistake of the last year by reissuing a convention set. The club members continue to give you a near bottomless pit of suggestions. Reissuing older sets in the newer sculpt, we are sure, was not among the majority suggested by membership. We appreciate the convention exclusives and we wish to remind you to keep your eyes on the final goal of releasing the 3.75″ Adventure Team sets. We only see positive results if these are released. We also wish to thank you for remembering those members who are RAH vintage fans by issuing o-ring sets and figures – even though one of these is an obscure basketball reject who appeared in a horrible GI Joe animated movie.

We also would like the GIJCC not to forget our 12″ brethren. While we have been at odds with this sect of the collector-dom in years past, we feel it is important to keep the hobby united. A split hobby WILL NOT be a healthy hobby. We have opened our arms to our sister organization, The Defenders of Bulletman. If fact, we had some of their membership attend our last meeting. This is a sign of the times to show our solidarity with all aspects of the hobby. While a majority of the CFB membership may not be a fan nor own a single 12″ figure, we realize that this side of the hobby are OUR ROOTS and without them, we’d not be here today. While it may not be our slogan, we join our 12″ comrades by echoing “All hail DOB”.

In closing, it was a good, yet amazingly status quo year for us. Our next meeting is a mere 9 months away. What surprises do we have in store for 2010? We shall see, but until then, rest up and relax because our hobby is in a renaissance. Let’s enjoy it while it lasts.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Bulletman to receive LIFETIME Achievement Award!

On the eve of the 2009 International GI Joe Collectors’ Convention in Kanasa City, the CFB is announcing a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT award for the illustrious Bulletman. In celebration of its 5th Anniversary and a show of comradeship towards its sister organization, The Defenders of Bulletman, the CFB will bestow its highest honor to this chromed hero. To commemorate this event, the CFB is issuing a limited issue Bulletman Cardart print. This page card, now in the design of the modern era cards, features an original full colored in-action drawing by Daniel Hartzler, card layout by George Greenoe and unique filecard that ties Bulletman’s comic history into the world of GI Joe. Bulletman shall now be held in the same regard as other infamous Joe characters such as Globulus, Raptor and CFB Mascot Crystal Ball. Please join us as we induct BULLETMAN into the ranks of the CFB! The CFB meeting is immediately following the Convention Casino Night and Awards Dinner. See you there!

With a cranky economy and a sub par con set worthy of immediate induction into the CFB, the annual GI Joe convention quickly approaches with little or no fan fare. Fear not, the CFB will liven up the convention weekend!! We are still on schedule for our yearly meeting IMMEDIATELY following the Casio Awards Night and Auction. Be sure to attend.
